Daybeds & Cocktail Tables

A daybed is the most generous piece of furniture you can put on a pool deck. Wider than a chaise and deep enough to share, it is built for lying down rather than sitting up, which makes it the natural anchor for a shaded corner or a spot with a view across the water.

The cocktail table pairing

Daybeds sit low and deep, which puts a standard side table at the wrong height entirely. A cocktail table is proportioned specifically for this, low enough to reach from a reclined position and large enough to hold drinks, a tray or a book for two people without crowding.

Placement

Daybeds want a defined spot rather than a spot in the traffic flow, because nobody wants to walk past someone lying down. A corner of the deck, a spot under a pergola or the far side of the pool from the entry gate all work well. Pair with a cantilever umbrella if the location takes hard afternoon sun, since a daybed in full exposure goes unused during the hottest hours.
